Bible Verses About Strength: 28 Scriptures for Hard Days
There’s a particular kind of tired that doesn’t go away with sleep. I hit it about four years ago, and I couldn’t have told you what I needed — only that I needed something.
What I did was start sketching scripture. Not because I was strong, but because I wasn’t. These are the verses I kept coming back to, grouped by what you might actually be walking through today rather than in the order they appear in the Bible.
What is the best Bible verse for strength?
Philippians 4:13 is the most quoted: “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” But the honest answer is that the best verse is the one that matches your day.

What does the Bible actually mean by “strength”?
In scripture, strength is almost never something you generate. It’s something God supplies, usually in the exact moment you run out of your own.
That’s the pattern running through every verse on this page, and it’s the opposite of how the word usually gets used. Paul puts it most bluntly in 2 Corinthians 12:9: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Not despite weakness. In it.

When fear is the problem, scripture’s answer is almost always presence — not “be braver,” but “I am with you.”

For exhaustion, scripture doesn’t offer more effort. It offers rest, renewal, and the joy of the Lord as an actual source of strength.
